Husband of Eva Constance Allsop (nee Hayler of Kew, Melbourne - married in England 1938)

 

 

Flight Lieutenant John William Allsop graduated as a RAAF pilot from Point Cook in 1936 and was transferred from the RAAF to the RAF on a short-term commission, leaving for England in January 1937.  At the outbreak of the war FLTLT Allsop was attached to Number 10 Squadron RAF stationed in the north-east of England.   (RAF Service Number 39452)

 

He was the pilot of 10SQN RAF Whitley bomber K9018 which was lost over the North Sea on the night of the 1st / 2nd of October 1939 " Standard Route from Base to Berlin (Target) and return by same route. Aircraft and crew did not return to base and have been reported as missing on Form 765A Serial No. 29 and Signal to Air Ministry A.127 dated 02/10/39. Last heard working w/t 05:05." (information from British Air Ministry file AIR27/141)
