Husband of Mrs. Emily BRIAR of Cowra, New South Wales.
Another Narandera soldier has paid the supreme sacrifice in the war. He is Gunner Gus Briar, of Peters Street, Narandera, who has died of wounds received in the New Guinea campaign. Gunner Briar was a native of Yass, being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Briar, of that district, and was aged about 40. Prior to enlisting in the A.I.F., he had resided in Narandera for a number of years. He served in the Egyptian campaign as a gunner, and returned with the 9th Division of the A.I.F. to Australia earlier this year. After having furlough in Narandera with his wife and family, he rejoined his unit and went to Northern Australia and more recently to New Guinea, where he died of wounds.
Mrs. Briar and three young children survive him. The children are Clive, Gloria and Bonnie. His widow has had more than her share of trouble lately, as on 10th September she lost all her personal belongings in the fire in which Mr. J. Howell, an old age pensioner, sustained fatal injuries, and now she has suffered this bereavement.
