Son of the Hon. Robert Cosgrove, M.H.A. Premier of Tasmania and Dame Gertrude Ann Cosgrove, D.B.E. of West Hobart, Tasmania
Flight Lieutenant Cosgrove 39456 RAF was killed in the loss of 50SQN RAF Hampden I L4065 which failed to return from a mine laying mission in the Great Belt area in the North Sea off Denmark - other crew: Corporal J Doran, Sergeant G W Everatt, Sergeant F W Batchelor
