Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Euroa Advertiser (Vic. : 1884 - 1920), Friday 25 January 1918, page 3.

THE LATE SERGT. MARK AKERS. Mrs. G. Akers, of Locksley, who has several sons in the Empire's service, has received the following letter in connection with the death of her boy, Sergeant Mark Akers.

"Dear Mrs. Akers, We were all truly sorry to hear of the loss you have sustained in the death of your son, Mark. Pray believe how sincerely we sympathise with you in your bitter sorrow. I feel how idle words must be to convey a shadow of comfort to your stricken heart, and yet it would seem unkind not to send you a few lines of heartfelt sympathy. We were all proud of your son, and miss him greatly. He was so genial and kind- hearted, and a good soldier at all times. He was killed whilst cheering his men during a bombardment, and suffered no pain, being called to a better world instanta-neously.

With every regret. SYDNEY WOODWARD, Lieutenant."
