A full story of the loss of George Hawes’ aircraft over the North Sea after departing 207 Squadron, Bottesford in the early hours of 24 July, 1942 for a raid on Duisburg, Germany can be read on the site https://aircrewremembered.com. This includes photographs and stories about his crew who all lost their lives on 24 July. One body was found 3 months later, washed up on the shores of Holland.
