The Minmi Roll of Honour has 79 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.
The 9th name inscribed on the Minmi Roll of Honour is Lieutenant Charles Edward Etheridge.
On the Monday afternoon of the 7th January 1952, the ashes were cremated at Newcastle Memorial Park, N.S.W. of Lieutenant Charles Edward Etheridge, 18th Battalion (Reg No-1923), butcher (Mascall's Butchery, Hamilton, N.S.W.), from Main Street, Minmi, New South Wales and Mittagong, N.S.W. and Woodville, N.S.W., father of five (George, Harold, Bonnie, Madge, Hilda), age 61 years 9 months.
Charles had died on the 6th January 1952 at Woodville, N.S.W.
Ashes interred or scattered date unknown.
Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 1st April 1890 to Thomas Snr, died 4.1.1921, Minmi, N.S.W., age 52, father of 3 sons, buried at Minmi Cemetery, N.S.W., Left Hand Side, Section 28, Plot 028, licensee, Royal Hotel, Main Street, Minmi, New South Wales, and Edith Lillias (Lily) Etheridge nee Jeffries, married to Thomas 1887, re-married to John Dodd 1923, Edith died 30.8.1947, Cessnock Hospital, N.S.W., age 77, sleeping with Thomas at Minmi Cemetery, N.S.W., Left Hand Side, Section 28, Plot 028 - no funeral notice located; husband of Hilda May Budd Etheridge or nee Budd, married in England?, date unknown, Hilda died 17.7.1974, Young, N.S.W., age 77, ashes interred Newcastle Memorial Park, N.S.W.
Charles enlisted on the 21st June 1915, age 25 years 2 months, at Liverpool, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A54 Runic on the 9th August 1915.
Promoted to Company Quartermaster Sergeant 30.10.1916.
Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant 1.5.1917.
Promoted to 1st Lieutenant 3.8.1917.
Granted leave to England from 19.10.1918 to 1.11.1918.
Commenced return to Australia 1.4.1919.
Charles arrived home on the 16th May 1919 (Special Reasons, not stated), being discharged on the 10th July 1919.
Received all 3 War Medals.
Not officially commemorated.
Charles’s name has also been inscribed on the Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour and the Newcastle & Northern District Branch Meat Workers' Union Honour Roll, whereabouts unknown.

I don’t know if it possible to place poppies at Charles’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
