Williamstown Chronicle 21st December 1945:
Mr R. W. MADDOX.
Flags at the town hall and Memorial Hall were flown at half mast on Monday out of respect to the memory of Mr Roy Wesley Maddox, of 52 Electra St., who died suddenly on Saturday evening.
Deceased was born at Preston 38 years ago, and served with the 2/31st Australian Infantry Batt., A.I.F., and was at Tobruk. He had only been discharged from the A.I.F. two months after over four
years service. He leaves a widow (formerly Miss Blodwyn Parry) and one son to mourn their loss. The funeral, very largely attended, at which many beautiful floral tributes were received, took place on
Monday afternoon, 'leaving Ernest W. Jackson's funeral chapel for interment in the local cemetery.
The coffin, covered with the Union Jack, on which rested deceased's Digger hat and a laurel and poppy wreath from the local branch of the R.S.S.A.I.L.A., was carried to the grave by returned comrades, who also acted as pall-bearers.
The Rev. H. Griffiths held a service in the chapel and officiated at 'the cemetery, and as a returned padre conducted the returned soldiers' burial service.
