2/17 Bn Campaign - SIEGE OF TOBRUK (Maj., Battalion 2 i/c) 

2/15 Bn Campaign - El ALAMEIN (Lt. Colonel, CO). Died of wounds received by enemy shelling, whilst attempting to return to his 2nd/15th Bn troops' start line positions following battle plan discussions with 2nd/17th Bn CO Lt Colonel Broadbent.

He married Phyllis Ragna LEITKE in Sydney in 1938

Charles died of wounds in El Alamein, Egypt on 30th October, 1942 and is buried in the El Alamein War Cemetery
