R.A.A.F. CASUALTIES
Death from injuries caused when an aircraft crashed and caught fire was the verdict of the Coroner (Mr. M. Wyse) who conducted an inquest concerning the death of Albert Ronald Mainerd, aged 19 years. Sq/L Sangster, senior medical officer, stated he saw a wrecked aircraft and the body of deceased about 15 miles from Deniliquin. An identity disc was handed to him showing the name A. R. Mainerd.
Constable Griffin said he went to the scene of the accident and ascertained the machine crashed the previous day when doing cross country exercises. Debris of the aircraft was idely scattered. He produced statement made by the second occupant of the aircraft who escaped with minor injuries. The parents of deceased lived at Bexley, Sydney.
