Notes
McIntosh was a public servant in the Patents Office when he enlisted in January 1942. He joined the 2/3 Machine Gun Battalion in July 1942 and trained in Queensland with his unit until December 1944 when he was sent to Aitape in New Guinea. On 4 March 1945 the 2/3 Machine Gun Battalion were operating as infantry in the coastal ranges around Arohemi, about halfway between Aitape and Wewak, where they met stiff resistance from the Japanese during a three day battle. McIntosh was killed in action on 6 March 1945, aged 21 years. He was buried at Lae War Cemetery, Papua New Guinea: grave GG. B. 7.
Note that McIntosh's attestation papers state he worked for the Patents Office but the Roll of Honour circular has him working for the Prime Minister's Office.
