Son of Denis and Mary Mooney, of Narrandera, New South Wales.
ETERNAL REST GRANT HIM, O LORD. HIS DUTY NOBLY DONE
Mr. Denis Mooney, of King Street, Narandera, yesterday received a telegram from the Minister for the Army that his son NX15465, Corporal Francis Mooney, had been killed in action on 15th September. Corporal Mooney, who was a native of Narandera, would have been 24 years of age on 15th October. He was educated in Narandera and was liked by all who knew him. He enlisted in 1940 and was one of the contingent of Australians to go to the Middle East early in the campaign. He served in the Suez campaign, and when the Australians were withdrawn from the north of Africa early last year he came back to Australia. After a brief leave he went to New Guinea and recently was granted leave to visit his parents. After his leave he returned to a northern base. He was unmarried. The news of the death of Corporal Mooney will be received with regret by the many friends of this old Narandera family.
