Son of John and Oliva BROWN of 777 Russell Street, Kalgoorlie
Capt Brown was born in Northcote (Victoria) -21 years ago, and after his arrival in Wet Australia spent seven years in Perth and ten years in Bulong. He was an expert rifle shot, and was successful in life saving and first aid work. In July 1915, he enlisted in Perth, and after gaining his commission left the State in April 1916. He was wounded on October 6 following, and after a period in a London hospital he was engaged in carrying troops across the Channel. Subsequently he returned to the front, where he had been under constant fire for several months, when he fell in action. His father, Mr J. R. Brown, is well known on the goldfields where he occupies the position of secretary of the Shop Assistants' Union.
