Alfred was the fourth child of Alfred Augustus Warland and Laura Nowland. Alfred enlisted 30 September 1915 at Brisbane. His unit embarked on 31 March 1916 on HMAT Star of Victoria from Sydney. Alfred's parents lived in Dayboro in 1905 and are buried in the Dayboro Cemetery. Alfred married Emma Elliott in 1922, in 1925 they were living at Thargomindah, his occupation was a schoolteacher. Alfred's brother Arthur Irvine [65147] enlisted, both brothers returned home.
