Biography

"...NX48127 Private Athol Richard Povey of Queanbeyan, NSW. Enlisting in the Second AIF in September 1941, Pte Povey served with the 2/12 Field Ambulance. He was killed whilst on board the Australian hospital ship Centaur when it was torpedoed by Japanese submarine I-177 and sunk off the Queensland Coast on 14 May 1943, aged 21." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
