ROSS, John Gordon served as RICCALTON, James.
John Gordon ROSS, enlisted in the Australian Military Forces (A.M.F) at Royal Park, Victoria on the 1st March 1941, with the service number – VX50053. The Victorian records list Lieutenant John Gordon ROSS as being absence from the A.M.F as of the 27th May 1942. James RICCALTON enlisted in the A.M.F. at Brisbane, Queensland on the 5th June 1942 with the service number – QX32637. Private Riccalton was transferred to 2nd/25th Australian Infantry Battalion and was killed in action on the 13th September 1943 in New Guinea. It was only after Private James RICCALTON’s death, that it was established both Lieutenant John Gordon ROSS and Private James RICCALTON were the same identity.
