Son of Joseph and Rebecca Miles of Ashurton, NZ. Brother of John William Miles who was killed in action on the 2 May 1915 while serving with the 2nd Battalion and has no known grave. Name appears on the Lone Pine Memorial, Panel 18. Also brother of W Miles of Taumarunai, North Island, NZ and Mrs A. Waardell of Ashburton, NZ
