Flying Officer Thorley 3929 RAAF was killed when De Havilland Dragon A34-19 crashed at Toogoolawah airfield, Queensland - the aircraft was on attachment to Number 2 Aerial Ambulance Unit based at Kingaroy

The aircraft’s passenger, Flight Sergeant Newton of Number 3 Initial Training School, was injured and put in hospital in Brisbane

The entrance street to today’s Watts Bridge airfield, formerly Toogoolawah airfield, is named Thorley Street in honour of Pilot Officer Thorley
