17 Jun 1919: | Honoured Military Medal, Mont St Quentin / Peronne, For gallantry and devotion to duty during orperations on Mont St Quentin near Peronne on 31 August 1918. After the enemy succeeded in taking a position 25 yards off his platoon's flank he took his Lewis gun to an exposed location and despite being subject to heavy rifle fire destroyed the enemy machine gun that had inflicted heavy casualties. Keeping up covering fire he allowed the party to move forward and mop up the enemy post. His skilfull handling of his Lewis Gun and his personal courage assisted in clearing a dangerous situation. |
