Jo saw action in Gallipoli from 05 April 1915 and was reported as AWL believed t have gone to Lemnos.  He rejoined his Battalion 29 August 1915 and presented sick 29 January 1916 with Mumps.  He was then attached to the 60th Battalion 24 May 1916 and sent to Marseilles, France.  In December 1917 he attended a school of Farriery at Abbeville  and completed the course and returned to his unit 01 February 1918.

Embarked at Taranto for Australia 08 October 1918.
