My Great Uncle Edward
Birth: 30 Dec 1886 - South Road, Horton District, Tasmania
Death: Cir 1978
Father: Edward Jones (Abt 1861-1905) From Hobart likely an Aboriginal)
Mother: Ellen Barbara Finnerty (1865-1947)
Edward enlisted in the army on 8/7/1915. He is described as having a dark complexion and brown eyes. He was taken on strength in the 52 Australian Infantry Battalion on 1/3/1916 in Egypt where they did training before being shipped to Marsalles. He survived the battle for Mouquet Farm. Then for his efforts at Gueudecourt was awarded the military medal on 28/12/1916. He returned to Australia aboard the China and appears to have arrived in Tasmania 8/6/1919. Edward was discharged on 21/8/1919.
