Nicholas Jnr was the youngest of four children of Nicholas Burrows Snr (born 1885 in Charters Towers, QLD) and Rosabelle (Rosa) Savage (born 1886 in Townsville, QLD. Nicholas Snr was a Coal Miner in 1910 in Charters Towers when he married Rosa, and in 1913 the family was living in Thuringowa, QLD where Nichols was a Night Officer. Joing QLD Railways, Nicholas became a Station Master - living in Charters Towers, Ayr, Julia Creek and Atherton in QLD.

Nicholas Jnr was a Shop Assistant in Julia Creek, QLD in 1942 when he enlisted in the CMF. He served as a Private (Service No:Q109591) with 11th Training Battalion and 51st and 47th Infantry Battalions. He was in New Guinea from 21 January 1943 to 28 February 1944 and in Bougainville from 2 December 1944 to 2 May 1946. Nicholas was Discharged in June 1946.

Nicholas returned from the War and was working as a Glazier in Brisbane, QLD in 1950 when he married Joyce Wilson McCallum (born 1928 in Brisbane, QLD). Nicholas joined QLD Railways and worked as a Railway Officer at Mirani in QLD before becoming Assistant Stationmaster. He and Joyce lived in Atherton, Alpha and Pinkenba where Nicholas was Assistant Stationmaster. By 1977 they were living in Sandgate, QLD where Nicholas was Station Master until he retired. Nicholas died in 2005 and Joyce in 2018.
