Private Vivian James Butler

Vivian was the second of three children of James William Butler (born 1895 in Gympie, QLD) and Maud Ann Barlow (born 1897 in Gympie, QLD. Vivian was raised in Gympie where his father worked on the Railways, initially as a Fireman and then as a Locomotive Driver). Vivian was a Labourer in Gympie, QLD when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1941, serving as a Private (Services Nos: QX26122/QX37500/Q135266). He served in the Middle East as a Rat of Tobruk, and in New Guinea and Borneo and was Discharged in 1946.

Vivian returned to Gympie following his Discharge, and worked as a Labourer. He married Lillian Martha Barlow (born 1923 in Gympie, QLD) in 1947 in Gympie Qld and worked as a Motor Driver. He and Lillian remained in Gympie, raising eight children, and Vivian worked as a Tractor Driver and a Plant Operator. He died in 1978 and Lillian in 1992.

Vivian was a Labourer in Gympie, Queensland when he enlisted initially on 12/12/1941 as a Private (Service no: 26122) and was Discharged as Medically Unfit on 1 January 1942
He then enlisted and served from 10 July 1942 - 26 June 1946 with Australian Army 2/9 Infantry Battalion; Private (Service No: QX37500) in New Guinea (1943), and Borneo (1945 - 1946). He was Discharged on 26/6/1946.
