A Forgotten Digger of The Great War resting at Sandgate Cemetery, his Honour and Dignity restored.

Private George Ernest Morrow, 30th & 45th Battalions (Reg No-1775), farm labourer from High Street, Morpeth, New South Wales and Hamilton, N.S.W. and Thornton, N.S.W. and Scotch Creek, Millers Forest, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery on the 19th July 1954, age 78. METHODIST 4-06. 48.

Wounded in action - 13.11.1916 (GSW eye, left foot and hands, right leg, severe).

Admitted to hospital 15.1.1918 (injured lip and right hand).

Reported Missing in Action - 5.4.1918.
Reported Prisoner of War - 14.5.1918.

Repatriated Prisoner of War, from Germany to England, arrived 24.12.1918.

No headstone.

Wooden cross erected - 30.10.2020.

I submitted an application to DVA November 2020 asking for a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque, curbing and marble chip, and this was accepted June 2021, completed November 2021.

Older brother Walter Hugh (35th Battalion, Reg No-1405, born 1872, Wallsend, N.S.W., died 1950, East Maitland Presbyterian Cemetery) also served 1st A.I.F.
George's son Archibald (1st Australian Machine Gun Company, Reg No-13287, born Hinton, N.S.W., died 1962, Belmont, N.S.W.) also served 1st A.I.F.
