Son of Mrs. Elizabeth STAGOLL, Scottsdale, Tasmania
The Rector had on Wednesday the sad task of conveying to Mrs Stagoll, Arthur Street, the message that her son, Private Walter William Stagoll, had been killed in action in France on the 23rd August. The deceased soldier was of about 28 years of age, and enlisted in December 1916. One brother Private T. E. Stagoll fell in action about 2 years ago, and one is in the firing line in Palestine. The deepest sympathy is felt for the bereaved mother, who has thus lost two sons who have laid down their lives for their country. At the Public debate held on Wednesday night, Warden Hookway made very feeling reference to the distressing news, and at his request the whole audience stood in silence out of respect to the fallen soldier.
