| 4 Oct 1917: | Involvement AIF WW1, Lance Sergeant, 1566, 7th Field Ambulance, Broodseinde Ridge, Was employed in an Advanced Dressing Station during an attack on BROODSEINDE RIDGE in October 1917. In the absence of stretcher bearers he walked out under heavy shell fire and dressed and carried in wounded. In one instance which was not unusual to him, he remained out dressing wounded for two hours under barrage fire, and finally carried one man in alone. For this, he was awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre for conspicuous bravery (recommended 30-Dec-1917; awarded in 1918). | |
