Biography contributed by Daniel Bishop

James Joseph HEALY

Born: December 23rd, 1917, at Brisbane, Queensland

Father: James Joseph Healy

Mother: Ruby Elizabeth (nee Fuller) Healy

James initially joined the Australian Army in 1939, then later following onto joining the Royal Australian Air Force in 1942 - which will be stated in more detail further on.  While he was in the Australian Army or sometime before he joined the Royal Australian Air Force, he married his wife Gladys Evelyn EVANS, younger sister to my Nana, Kathleen May (nee EVANS) BISHOP.

James married Gladys in 1942 (sometime before he joined the Royal Australian Air Force, as his service records then state "Gladys Healy" as his next of kin.

I never had the chance to meet my uncle James Joseph Healy, however I knew his wife Gladys as "Aunty Evelyn" when she would visit my Nana, Kath Bishop. I only remember seeing her a few times when my Nana, Kath, was still alive.  She was just as special as my nana & both very dear. She a very good with sewing and made quite a number of baby garments for my mum, which we as babies were dressed in.

My name is Daniel, I am the youngest son of Robert P. Bishop and Kay Williams. My father Robert is the second son of my Nana, Kath Bishop.

Just as Aunty Evelyn was a special and dear lady, I am very sure James Joseph Healy was a fine gentleman too. I only have a few fluttering memories of Aunty Evelyn Gladys Healy, so if anyone who reads this is directly related to James and Gladys, please add more memories - I would be very grateful to hear more of their life together.
