Private James Lawrence Heymer (Service No:QX58068) enlisted in the AIF on 10 December 1943 and was marched from General Details Depot to 23 Infantry Training Battalion. On 6 June 1945, Private Heymer was attached to 2/25 Infantry Battalion when he embarked with his Unit from Townsville for Morotai on board Cape Mendocino, en route for service in for Borneo. WiA (Shrapnel Wound to the face, with perforated eardrum) at Balikapan on 17 July 1945, Private Heymer served with 2/1 Guard Regiment and embarked from Balikapan for Sydney on 8 November 1946 on board LST 3035 (HMAS Lae). Private Heymer was attached to 2/25 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 14 November 1946.

Jim was born in Wynnum, Brisbane QLD in 1925, youngest of two children of Alfred (Alf, Charles) James Heymer (b1898 in Wynnum, Brisbane, QLD) and Hilda Maddison Johnstone (b1900 in Staffordshire, England). Hilda immigrated with her parents and brother, and was living in Wynnum in 1923 when she and Alf married. Alf and Hilda settled in Wynnum, where they raised their family and Alf was a Taxi Driver/Owner.

Jim was working as a Labourer in Wynnum when he enlisted in the AIF in 1943, and following his Discharge, returned to Wynnum and worked as a Labourer. By the early 1950s, Jim was a Carpenter in Wynnum when he married Margaret Brock (b1929 in Wynnum, Brisbane, QLD). Jim and Margaret settled in Wynnum, where they raised their family and Jim worked as a Carpenter until his death in 1975. Margaret died in 2007.
