Charles was the eldest of three children of Charles (Charlie) Holland (b1899 in Ipswich, QLD) and his first wife Helen Gladys Mensforth (b1898 in Ipswich, QLD). Charlie (an Ambualnce Bearer) and Helen married in Ipswich in 1919 where they settled and Charlie worked as an Ambualnce Bearer and Cook before enlisting in the Army (Sergeant; Service No:QX6508) in WWII.

Charles was working in Ipswich, QLD as an Apprentice Carpenter when he enlisted in the Australian Army (Corporal; Service No:QX1327) in November 1939. He was attached to 2/5 Field Regiment Signals Section when he was Discharged in 1945. Brother-in-Law Geoffrey Harrison Bishop (Trooper; Service Nos:QX49737/Q148086) also served in WWII.

In March 1945 Charles married Ruth Jane Dick (b1922 in Ipswich, QLD) and Charles worked as a PMG Technician in Brisbane until the early 1960s. Charles and Ruth moved to Mount Isa where Charles was a PMG Technician before relocating to Longreach where he worked for Radio 4QL as a Radio Technician until the late 1970s.

Charles and Ruth moved to Gin Gin where Charles was a Farmer. He died in 1980.
