Sapper Cecil James Ireland (Service No:Q189899) enlisted in the ACMF on 17 July 1940 with 16 Australian Troops Coy (ATC) RAE (classified as Concreter and Bricklayer). In December 1941 he was posted to 12 ATC RAE and served in Borneo (29 November 1944 - 13 December 1945). Sapper Ireland was Discharged on 27 December 1945. Son Norman (Private; Service Nos:QX57493/Q100908) and Cecil's brother Percy (Sergeant; Service Nos:QX1186/22815) also served in WWII.

Born in 1902 in Brisbane QLD, Cecil was the second of five children of John Ireland (b1877 in Strathpine, QLD) and Leah Green (b1880 in Brisbane, QLD). John (a Contractor) and Leah married in 1899 in Brisbane and lived in South Pine and Brisbane where John was a Farmer, Labourer and Concrete Worker.

Cecil worked as a Tanner in Brisbane and in 1922 married Edith Jessie Ann Benzie (b1904 in Brisbane, QLD). Cecil and Edith settled in Brisbane where Cecil was a Tanner - in his Attestation Papers he stated he was a Licensed Drainer, and was classified as a Concreter and Bricklayer. Cecil and Edith lived in Brisbane and Cecil worked as a Tanner - Edith died in 1982 and Cecil in 1992.
