Neville was the seventh of eight children of John William Jackson (born 1875 in Ipswich, QLD) and Mary Agnes Haley (born 1877 at Walloon in QLD). John - a Hairdresser - and Mary married in 1899 in Ipswich, QLD where they raised their children. In 1912, John's business at Boonah burned down and the family relocated to Brisbane. William enlisted in 1918 for service in WWI, and was a Private (Service No:9941) with 11th Depot Battalion Sea Transport from July to November. John and Mary moved to Rockhampton, and John was killed in 1935 when he was hit by a train.

Neville was a Jockey in Rockhampton QLD. Older brother Private Eric John Haley Jackson (Service No:3558) was KiA in France in November 1918. Neville enlisted in the Army in March 1941 and served as a Private (Service No:QX20183) with 10th Australian General Hospital. On 17 September 1941 he embarked from Sydney per HMT JJ, and was taken prisoner by the Japanese in Singapore on 11 October 1941. Neville was interned at Changi until October 1945, and embarked from Labuan per the Mantoora for return to Australia, He married Doris Adelaide Ricks (born 1921 in Rockhampton) and was Discharged on 19 December 1945

Neville and Doris lived in Rockhampton, where Neville was a Railway employee. Neville moved  to Mackay, QLD in the early 1950s where he worked as Labourer and Postal Officer and died in Mackay in 1969. Doris remained in Rockhampton where she died in 1996.
