His parents were William Bismarck PHILIPPSON & Elizabeth Evelyn LAWRENCE who married in Broken Hill on 3rd January, 1891

His brother William Felix PHILIPPSON (SN 1616) also served during WW1 and died of wounds on 17th May, 1915 (11th Infantry Battalion)
