Family notes:
When Walter Edward Gillett was born in 1874 in Witney, Oxfordshire, his father, Frederick Gillett (1841-1881), was 33 and his mother, Emily (nee Baughen, 1843-1895), was 31. He had one daughter (Phyllis May Gillett) born in 1901- with his wife Leila Rose Ada Gillett. He died on 26 April 1957 in Perth, Western Australia, at the age of 83.
This is part of a letter from 1916 - Pte Francis Evans, July 16 1916, Blackboy Hill WA (letter to his mother);
"Father said that you wanted to know the names of some of my friends, I haven't any very special ones however I get on alright with most of the fellows, however Private W.E. Gillett is my best friend here, he is a little man and a gentleman." (Francis/Ken Evans was KIA 13/10/1917 Zonnebeke Farm, Belgium) This is probably a fair indication that Walter was a good man.
