Biography

Montgomery Scott MARTIN was born at Mt. Scott near Kingston, South Australia on 16th July, 1896

His parents were William Alfred Hobson MARTIN and Elizabeth Waldridge COUSIN

He  had one year compulsory training in the senor cadets before he enlisted many times in different states before being accepted into the Australian Army  - he was a Private in the 9th Light Horse Regiment, 20th reinforcements - Unit embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Kyarra on 7th September, 1917

He returned to Australia on 4th September 1918 on the hospital ship Karoola due to illness

Montgomery died on 13th August, 1920 at Bedford Park Sanitorium from Pulmonary Tuberculosis and is buried in North Road Anglican Cemetery, Nailsworth, Adelaide SA - He has a plaque in the Garden of Remembrance in SA and also commemorated in the Australian War Memorial - He was awarded the British war medal and the Victory medal
