According to the battalion unit diary, on 20 April 1916 the troops were billeted in Rue du Bois (near Fleurbaix) when the billets sustained a bombardment by german artillery. The battalion suffered 75 casualties (1 officer and 24 OR killed and 1 officer and 49 OR wounded), including Pte Phillips.
