Son of Sophia Glass formerly O'Donnell of Dow Street, South Melbourne, Victoria.
Prior to enlisting William served with the Naval Brigade, South Melbourne.
Commenced return to Australia on 5 March 1919 aboard HT Port Sydney disembarking on 17 April 1919
