Private Thomas William John Pritchard (Service No:QX19727) enlisted in the AIF on 14 June 1941, and was appointed to 41 Field Training Battery - Gunner. On 24 January 1942, Private Pritchard was attached to 2/10 Field Regiment RAA when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Singapore. Captured by the Japanese on 15 February 1942, Private Pritchard was interred at Changi Prison until 15 May 1943 when he embarked from Singapore with 'J' Force bound for Japan on board the Wales Maru. Private Pritchard was interred at Notagawa Camp, Osaka, and recovered from the Japanese on 19 September 1945. Private Pritchard embarked from Manila for Sydney on 13 October 1945 on board HMS Formidable, and was attached to 2/10 Field Regiment at Discharge on 11 January 1946.

Tom was born in Brisbane, QLD in 1906, fourth of six children of William Thomas Pritchard (b1867 in Brisbane, QLD) and Annie Eliza Christina Peterson (b1878 in Brisbane, QLD). William (a Fisherman) and Annie married in 1898 in Brisbane, where they settled and raised their family and William was a Fisherman, Labourer and Waterside Worker.

Tom started work as a Painter in the 1920s, and from the early 1930s was a Waterside Worker in Cleveland, Brisbane where, in 1936 when he married Susan May Slater (b1909 in Warwick, QLD). Tom and Susan settled in Cleveland, where they raised their family and Tom was a Waterside Worker when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, Tom and Susan lived in Brisbane - Cleveland, Nundah and Boondall - where Tom was a Waterside Worker until retirement. Susan died in 1989 and Tom in 1996.
