"...2691 Sergeant Frederick James Fairbrother, 52nd Battalion, from Elizabeth Town, Tasmania. Sgt Fairbrother enlisted on 13 July 1915 at the age of 24 and embarked for overseas with the 12th Battalion on 10 September 1915 aboard SS Makarini. After fighting at Gallipoli, he went on to fight on the Western Front where he was captured at Lagnicourt, France, on 29 March 1917. Sgt Fairbrother spent the rest of the war as a Prisoner of War (POW) in Germany before being repatriated to England on 25 December 1918 and arriving back in Australia on 20 August 1919..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
