Biography contributed by Michael Silver

The South Coast Times of 16 December 1916 published the following account of a memorial service for Lance Corporal Clarence Garfield Page MM held at Helensburgh:

“The local Presbyterian Church, Helensburgh, was crowded on Sunday night last when a memorial service in connection, with the death of Rev. C. G. Page, B. A. was held. Mr Page filled the pulpit of the church for nearly two years and was a theological student at St Andrews College, University of Sydney. He enlisted shortly after the war started and went through the Gallipoli campaign being killed near Pozieres in France last July.

Rev Mr Lowrie conducted the service, members of the local Orange lodges were in attendance in their regalia. The Town Band played selected hymns before the commencement and at the conclusion of the service in the church placed the Dead March, while the congregation stood. The Helensburg Male Voice Choir also assisted. Miss Inch officiated at the organ, suitable hymns, being sung by the congregation.

Mr. Lowrie expressed the deep sympathy all in connection with the church had for the fallen soldier' s mother and friends. Mr. Page's mother was present, having come from Tamworth. She has had three sons fighting for the Empire, two have been killed, the third is at present wounded.”
