Son of William Clay Rush and Charlotte Elizabeth Rush of Morpeth, NSW formerly of Nelson Bay, Port Stephens, NSW.

Brother of Cecil Rush Croix de Guerre who returned to Australia on 5 March 1919 having served with the 15th Battalion and Sister Edith D. Rush RRE who returned to Australia on the 24 January 1920 having served with the Australian Army Nursing Service
