Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Harry Poole was the son of Harry and Elizabeth Poole, of Poowong, Victoria. He and his younger brother Ernest James both enlisted on 5 June 1916, in the 2nd Pioneer Battalion.

His brother 2512A Pte. Ernest James 'Jim' Poole 2nd Australian Pioneers was killed in action five weeks before Harry died on 15 September 1917, aged 28.

The brothers joined the 2nd Pioneer Battalion during November 1916 and served on the Western Front for almost 12 months. Harry was away sick just at the time his brother was killed. Harry was farming before the war and was known as ‘Lal’ Poole to his family and friends.
