When George Francis McNall enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as James McNall, Barringun, NSW. In the original Nominal Roll of the 6th Qld Imperial Bushmen Queensland Defence Force, held by National Archives, it notes his N.O.K. was his father James McNall.

George Francis McNall was born in 1879 at Bourke, New South Wales, a son to James and Sarah McNall. He married May Anderson in 1925 at Hurstville, NSW, and they had 1 child. They resided in the Enngonia and Riverina districts where he pursued pastoral interests owning a number of properties.

When he enlisted again in 1916 for WW1 he noted on his Attestation Form dated 30 Oct 1916 that; he was born at Bourke, NSW, and was 36 years 9 months of age; he was single and a drover; his N.O.K. was his mother Sarah McNall, Barringun; and he had previously served in a Qld Contingent in the Boer War. He was wounded in action in Sep 1917 in Belgium, G.S.W. to head/right eye, and was invalided back to Australia in 1918.
