Leslie Ivo Norton was born on the 12 of December in 1982 in Kensington South Australia. Before the war started Leslie worked as an ice cream Vendor before the war, and he was also a farm labourer. His religion lied in the church of England. Leslie’s hometown was in Brompton SA
WW1 started in 1914 when Leslie was only 22 and soon after the war started Leslie enlisted into tthe AIF. He enlisted on the 26/11/1914 at Oaklands SA. Leslie embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board the HMAT A50 Itonus on 15 February 1915 to go fight in the war. Soon after arriving in the Middle East he was sent to hospital with an infection on the 10/7/1915.
Leslie served until he was killed in action in Belgium on the 25 of September in 1917. Unfortunately, there is no known grave for Leslie Ivo Norton (find a grave 2020). This is a quote from some of his family after he had died, "in loving memory of our dear nephew, Leslie Ivo, killed in action, France, September 25, 1917. In our heart your memory lingers, sweetly tender, fond, and true, and there is not a day, dear Leslie, that we do not think of you". This was inserted by his loving aunt and uncle, E. as well as J. Comley (Family Notices - The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1931) - 25 Sep 1918 2014).
Leslie Ivo Norton's name is located at panel 13 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
