Although it does not show in the Service Record attached to this Memorial, Bernard in fact served on HMAS Hobart through WWII and for a period on BCOF duties in Japan post WWII. His time on HMAS Hobart exceeded the duration of any other posting.

Bernard (Bernhardt) Vincent Schache was the second eldest of 4 brothers who served during WW II. Walter Herbert Schache (Navy) KIA HMAS Sydney 1941 was an older brother while his 2 younger brothers Ronald Leslie Schache and Norman Henry Schache both served in the Army.
