Biography contributed by Sharyn Roberts

PRIVATE BERT. SHUMACK.
Private Bert. Shumack, who was not quite 20 years of age, died of wounds received in France on September 9. He was the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shumack of Needle Station, Dark Corner, and enlisted in July of last year. He was employed on the station and was noted as a rider and a shot. The late soldier was exceedingly popular in
the Dark Corner district, and his death came as a blow to many.
