Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Makin was at the great battle of Neuve Chapelle and in a recent issue of the 'Wiltshire Gazette' there appears an article by a sergeant in the 2nd. Wilts Regiment, to which Capt. Makin is attached, in which he gives an account of the battle. He concludes thus :— Our C. O.. Capt. Makin deserves the V.C. for good work done personally. His mother is a daughter of the late Hon Walter Duffield M.L.C. Col. Makin when he resided in Gawler over a quarter of a centry ago commanded the local volunteer.
