Served during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

58 years ago today, on the 6th September 1962, Able Seaman Selby Samuel Haydon, Royal Australian Navy (5790), of Armidale, New South Wales and Maclean N.S.W. and Raymond Terrace, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 61. ANGLICAN 3-210. 23.

Born at Hillgrove, New South Wales on the 6th September 1900 to Samuel and Harriett Haydon nee Frost, Selby enlisted on the 15th August 1916, his service expiring on the 5th September 1925.

Upon being notified by Selby's Great Niece Lea Harris and husband Ken Harris that Mr Haydon was resting in an unmarked grave, a service was organised July 2020 to place a cross to honour Selby’s duty for God, King and Country.
