Gerry was the sixth of seven children of George Henry Brennan (born 1892 at Karridale near Busselton, WA) and Mary Catherine Herlihy (born 1883 in Perth, WA). George (a Labourer) and Mary married in Perth in 1911 and lived in Busselton, Perth, Northam, Augusta - George worked for WA Railways.

Gerry enlisted in the Army in 1941 and was a Private (Service No:WX15995) with 2/8 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in 1946. Father George served in both wars, and his three brothers (Chum, Edward and Peter) and a Brother - in - Law served in WWII.

In 1948 Gerry was a Shop Hand in Maylands, perth, WA when he married Eileen Alice Lea (born 1924 in Wagerup, WA). Eileen was working as a Shop Assistant. In the early 1950s Gerry and Eileen moved to Harvey, WA where Gerry was a Forestry Worker in the region. Gerry died in Harvey in 1998.
