Son of Charles Ernest Hows and Cambridge Street, Paddington, NSW and Ida Rosetta Williams of Lincoln Street, Campsie, NSW.
Brother of Edward Robert Hows who returned to Australia on 9 April 1919 having served with the 9th Machine Gun Company, 36th and 34th Battalions
On 27 August 1918 Charles married Daisy Ellen Bowman Chadwell Parich Church, Essex, England. Rector Edward Smith officiated.
Commenced return to Australia on 23 July 1919 aboard HT Port Lincoln disembarking on 20 September 1919.
