John was the tenth of twelve known children born to Farquhar and Mary McLure. The family was well known in the Yea - Murrindindi area.

John did not marry or have any children but did have 36 known nieces and nephews. John is remembered by a great-great-nephew in this project.

McLURE and Family desire to convey their sincere THANKS for letters of condolence and ex-pressions of sympathy received by them from their many friends on the news be-coming known of the death of their be-loved son and brother, Private J. McLure, in France, from wounds received on the battlefield.

Soldier's Death Word was received on Saturday that Private J. McLure had died in France on the 30th September, from gunshot wounds in the right shoulder received on the battlefield on the 5th September. The flags at the Shire Hall and business places, etc., were immediately lowered to half-mast on the sad news becoming known. Private McLure is a son of Mr and Mrs. F. McLure, of Murrindindi
