Post-Vietnam

After Vietnam He joined 8 RAR at Enoggera Barracks, Brisbane in 1972 . After 8 RAR he was posted to First Recruit Training Battalion at Kapooka near Wagga Wagga NSW.

At Kapooka he was found to have hearing damage and because he was downgraded medically for Infantry, he Corps transferred to the Australian Intelligence Corps .
Initial training was undertaken at the School of Military Intelligence at Canungra.

On completion of training a posting to First Division Intelligence Unit followed where he served until promotion to Sergeant and a posting to HQ 5 MD Perth.

He took his discharge in June 1980 and obtained immediate employment within Bureau of Customs at Fremantle as a Preventive Officer in training. Following graduation he served at Fremantle and Perth Airport.

He completed Customs Marine training and later served on Customs vessels at Fremantle, Port Hedland and Broome. A successful career in the Northern Territory followed with time spent at Gove and Darwin mainly with Coastwatch and Border
Control programs as a Senior Inspector. He retired on medical grounds after 18 years' service.
